A Land Flowing with Milk and ... Wine?

That's the title of a chapter in my book, Original Thin: the Paleo Diet in the Bible and Ancient Literature.

I argue that Paleo purists are wrong in asserting that we should avoid dairy products and alcohol simply because ancient humans didn't enjoy them or couldn't digest them.

I've made a video in which I argue my case:

I do hope that other Paleo enthusiasts can either agree to disagree with me or agree with me on these points. I really don't want to be branded as "that Paleo guy who supports dairy and drinking." But I have to be true to my principles. So, people, be fair to me and at least hear me out.

Paleo Breakfast Ideas

After a heavy Thanksgiving meal, breakfast this morning needed to be light and strictly Paleo.

Scrambled eggs with diced ham, with steamed asparagus spears on the side.

My dry brining attempt from yesterday left the turkey way too salty to enjoy. Then I used the stock from the turkey to make the stuffing and that was too salty as well.

So the good news is I managed to escape Thanksgiving consuming only such carbs as are found in dry red wine.

But having missed out on properly partaking of our National Sacrament, tonight I will give myself the comfort foods of sweet potato fries and a large burger with sauteed onions and mushrooms.

“Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivĂ©!”

Every year we await the arrival of the Beaujolais Nouveau. It's a mass produced red table wine, but it's a fun tradition wherein we try it and see what foods it goes best with. And you compare notes with other oenophiles and therefore spread the love. Now, since we follow a Paleo lifestyle, I need to defend the fact that we do, in fact, drink red wine daily. The Paleo purists assert that we should not consume anything that our Paleolithic ancestors did not.

I have a whole chapter in my recent book, Original Thin: the Paleo Diet in the Bible and Ancient Literature, in which I argue that Paleo purists are misguided on this particular point.

What it boils down to is that abundant research has proven that the consumption of dry red wine is good for you.

Yes, Neanderthal man never took a sip of the stuff.

But to cut yourself off from something that will not make you fat and can help your health, just because the Troglodytes didn't have the pleasure, is unnecessary.
So raise your glass.

Here's to the Paleo Diet! It made me thin again. And here's to dry red wine. It's simply good.
